Searching for Lauren Spierer
Her story has been told, time and time again, in media outlets throughout Indiana and across the country: A young, 20-year-old Indiana University college student disappears in the early morning hours of June 3, 2011. The college sophomore's family flew down to Bloomington from their home in New York to search for their daughter. And more than four weeks later, Lauren Spierer still has not been found.
People have come from near and far to help search for the 4'11'' fashion student who went missing after a night spent partying with friends. In the beginning, searchers totaled in the hundreds. But as the weeks have gone by, searchers have had to head home, back to their jobs, their families and their lives. In one of the last scheduled volunteer search parties last week, Storage Solutions employee Chastity Wilke spent a day down in Bloomington searching for Lauren.
"It's a double-edged blade," Chastity said about walking through the winding roads and rocky ravines that make up southern Indiana. "You want to be the one to find something, to give her parents peace. But you don't want to find something because you want there to still be hope that she's out there."
"Words cannot describe the experience... Friends and family, hug your kids... Have the tough talks. To see the heartache in her family members' faces was heart wrenching," she said.
Storage Solutions is a material handling company based in central Indiana. But we are a company made up of members of around 100 families. The thought of losing any of our own is a thought we hate to even consider and our thoughts and prayers go out the Lauren Spierer's family. We will be standing by, waiting and hoping for her safe return.
