A Glimpse of September: Ovarian Cancer Awareness & A Run For A Cure
When most people think September, they recall the crisp feel of a fall morning, the start of football season, and the month that seems to transition the world from those hot and sticky summer months to the color and coolness of fall. But this year, we're calling attention to September for another reason: Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
In this day and age, most people have had cancer touch their lives in one way or another. This year, I had the opportunity to organize a fundraiser in honor of a very special person in my own life, Elaine Gorski. Elaine is my mom's best friend, the mother of two of my good friends, and one of the most inspirational, sassy and fun women I have ever met. She has been bravely fighting Ovarian Cancer for over three years now with determination, humility and a great sense of humor. So it has been an honor helping to raise money to donate to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance in her honor.
We organized this is in conjunction with the Chicago Half Marathon and 5K taking place on Sunday, September 11. With a team of 25 people, we're excited to run and walk through the streets of Chicago for such a good cause. Some Storage Solutions employees have also participated in donating to our cause. So far, we have managed to raise 173% of our original goal of $3,000. At $5,199 and counting, we are so excited to be able to help raise awareness and support such a great cause. Check out our fundraiser here: Run For A Cure.
Whether you're a current fighter, a survivor, or you have a loved one who has been affected by this disease, we'd like to just say, HERE'S TO YOU. We will forever be in awe of your bravery and strength.
